Trying to fit a laptop, a cell phone and a glass of wine onto the aircraft tray table can be difficult for passengers, especially in economy class. That’s why Smart Tray International has launched new tray tables that promise to give travellers “a better onboard experience with personal electronic devices”.
The so-called SmartTray X1, which debuted at the recent APEX EXPO in Long Beach, features built-in grooves for holding travellers’ PEDs, whilst the SmartTray X2 “tray in a tray” tray table allows travellers to watch content on tablets sealed within the tray table; the unique design permits viewing with the tray table up or down. At the same time, a battery installed inside the tray table powers the tablets. Content can be pre-loaded or Wi-Fi streamed.
“This setup, with pre-loaded content, will give airlines the ability to install a full IFE system literally overnight and begin to realize the ancillary revenue benefits immediately,” says Smart Tray International.
An X3 tray table is a hard-wired version of the X2, connected to aircraft power rather than using battery power.
“Offering access to these captive consumers when they are most receptive to advertising messages, in a clutter-free ad environment, gives advertisers a compelling proposition that is not available anywhere else,” says Smart Tray International.
